How it works
Redevelopment in Mumbai, by type
Slum rehabilitation (SRA / DRP). Residents are rehoused in-situ under a government scheme while the developer sells additional built-up area. Dharavi is the largest example, implemented through Adani Navbharat Developers Private Limited with the Dharavi Redevelopment Project / Slum Rehabilitation Authority.
Society redevelopment. A cooperative housing society approves a plan and appoints a developer. Members receive new homes in the rebuilt society, often with rent or corpus support, and the developer funds the project by selling additional flats using extra FSI or TDR.
MHADA and chawl redevelopment. Government bodies rebuild old public layouts such as the BDD Chawls in Worli and Motilal Nagar in Goregaon.
Cluster redevelopment. Neighbouring plots, chawls or old buildings are combined into a single larger project, as in Kamathipura or the Om Nagar federation.
